Applications have opened for Gozitan athletes who wish to participate in the Island Games 2025. This was announced by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri. The athletes will have the full support of the Gozo Island Games Association.

“After the first adventure we had in these competitions which resulted good performances, the Ministry started preparations for another contingent of athletes to represent Gozo in these games, being held next July in Orkney, Scotland,” said Minister Camilleri.

He added that, “in Orkney, Team Gozo will put all its efforts into once again being successful. Today the application process is being opened and will ensure that the best talent is selected,” said Minister Camilleri.

In 2023, Gozo managed to win four medals, a silver in athletics and a gold, silver and bronze in shooting. However, Gozitan shooters won’t be able to participate in the 2025 games as no shooting competitions will be organised, the Minister said.

Interested athletes must apply online no later than the 6th of September.

The Ministry said that a specially set up selection board will analyse each application and will see that the selected applicants have met the established criteria. “This ensures that the process is open and transparent.”
