Over 850 applications have been received from students for SEC revision classes were submitted to the Jobsplus agency which this year also organised review lessons in collaboration with the Department of Education.

54% percent of the students who applied were male, Jobsplus said.

The revision lessons, which are being given for free, are in Maltese, English, Mathematics, Physics and Biology.

Students aged between 15 and 29 who failed in one of these subjects could apply to attend free lessons, three times a week over a period of five weeks. In September they can take the exam again.

Each student could choose up to a maximum of three subjects to attend revision lessons on, given by professional and warranted teachers.

With almost 630 applicants, Mathematics was the most applied subject for students. This was followed by Maltese with 371 applicants, English with 345 applicants, Physics with 314 applicants, and Biology with 91 applicants.

During a visit to one of the learning centres, the Minister for the Interior, Security and Work Byron Camilleri and the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth and Innovation Clifton Grima met with some of the students and teachers during a break between lessons to hear their experiences.

The lessons are being given in the morning in educational centres in Mosta, Blata l-Bajda, Paola and in Victoria Gozo. More than five thousand students have benefited from these lessons since the scheme started ten years ago, the Ministry said.
