A group of 12 Gozitan altar boys who are currently at Vatican City to offer liturgical services at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

Last week, in the Choir Chapel of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Gozitan altar boys held the symbolic ceremony of the Vestición with the red vestment, which was led by Cardinal Mario Grech.The altar boys made their vows, and after the sash was Blessed it was given to them so that they formally became altar boys of the Basilica of Saint Peter.

Present for the ceremony were the parents and relatives of the altar boys, as well as those of the three priests who are accompanying them, Rev. Krystof Buttigieg, Rev. Noel Debono and Rev. Michael Curmi, together with Rev. Jean-Claude Schembri and Mons. Frans Bonnici, who are taking care of the groups of Maltese altar boys, and Mons. Joseph Zammit.

Following the ceremony, the parents, altar boys and Cardinal Grech enjoyed a meal together in the Minor Seminary where the boys are residing.

The next day after the Angelus prayer, the group had a private audience with Pope Francis in his residence of Santa Marta at the Vatican.
