Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna said that it expects BCRS to “show the public how it can improve its operational system.”
It stated that “as of today, the system is not meeting people’s expectations. In a fast and busy environment people demand efficiency, especially when they themselves are contributing to improve the environment.”
Zminijietna went on to say that “the company should explore the possibility of introducing a number of personnel working on the spot to ease the problem of time wasted waiting for someone to come and empty the machines. As well, the installation of more machines is needed.”
It noted that, “official data shows that in 2023 around 204 million beverage containers were collected through the BCRS. This is a positive step in a circular economy and for the environment.”

They should also stop cafes and bars from adding 10c deposit for customers drinking on their premises and not giving it back. One cafe just past parliament in Valletta, I have now stopped using for this reason, actually prints deposit on their bills but keeps it even though no one takes bottles away!
