BirdLife Malta said that as from Sunday, the 15th of September, until Monday, the 7th of October, hunting on Mondays to Saturdays is permitted until 7pm.
The NGO said that this period coincides with the peak of bird of prey migration, when many of these protected species arrive exhausted and in need of safe roosting places.
This measure, which was originally introduced for 3pm, but was amended in 2013, “is meant to give these protected species a fighting chance,” BirdLife Malta said.
