The Annual General Meeting of the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPMR) is being held in Gozo this week.

During this meeting, around 250 delegates are in Gozo to participate in several sections with various themes on the agenda.

During his address, Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, while welcoming the delegates, stressed about the importance and weight that such meetings carry for the regions who are located in the periphery and therefore have particular needs and challenges, enabling them to make their voices heard collectively before the European institutions.

“To ensure that the European Union reaches its citizens, we must have a coherent policy and a financial framework that strengthens the EU’s single market. The EU must support the economic framework, so all regions must have access to means to develop their full potential in a sustainable way. The promotion and access of means and financial instruments throughout Europe is essential for each region to continue to prosper and be successful,” said Minister Camilleri.

Founded in 1973, the CPMR aims to represent and promote the particular interests of its members in the European context. It is formed by more than 150 regions or islands on the periphery of Europe and represents more than 200 million citizens.

The CPMR regularly collaborates with European institutions where it contributes fully in matters of relevance to the islands and to the regions in the periphery of Europe.
