Later this month, music enthusiasts will have the opportunity to attend two concerts by Schola Cantorum Jubilate and their guest choir Imperial Male Voice Choir, taking place at the Ghasri Parish Church and Sacred Heart Seminary – Gozo respectively.

The conductors, both females are Marouska Attard, well-known in the local choral scene and Deborah Miles-Johnson.

Deborah is a flautist who took up singing in 1983 with the BBC Singers. She also performed and recorded with The Sixteen and the Tallis Scholars. As a mezzo-soprano Deborah sang under many high profile conductors including Sir Simon Rattle.

Deborah has been a member of the Royal Opera House Extra Chorus for the past 25 years and in that time has performed under Sir Antonio Pappano and others in many operas. Her diverse musical life also includes contributions to the soundtrack of many major international films including Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Shrek and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Opera Tua – is the title of he first concert, on Friday, the 18th of October, in Ghasri, starting at 7.30pm. Each choir will sing a number of their favourite pieces from their repertoire and will also join together in powerful uplifting choral pieces by composers such as Bruckner and Vaughan Williams.

Then on Saturday, the !9th, there will be a lunchtime concert, at the Gozo Seminary Hall, starting at 11.30am by the Imperial Male Voice Choir. Soprano Marouska Attard will sing with mezzo-soprano Deborah Miles-Johnson to perform duets by Dvorak and Rossini. They will both join with the choir for the finale.

Both concerts are free of charge and the public are warmly invited to attend.
