Update from Nadur Local Council below – A reminder that the 2024 seasonal vaccination campaign opens today, Monday, the 21st of October until the 15th of December.
This year, in addition to the free flu and Covid-19 vaccinations for everyone who is six months or over, the Pneumococcal 20 vaccine (PCV 20) will be offered free of charge to everyone aged 65 and over.
The PCV 20 vaccine, which has now been included in the national formulary, protects against infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, a bacterium responsible for serious infections such as chest infections and sepsis, particularly in older adults.
Eligible individuals in Gozo can receive their vaccinations at the following locations and times:
Victoria Health Centre: Available throughout the week, including weekends and public holidays, from 1pm until 7pm (walk -in service).
After the 15th of December, flu and Covid-19 vaccines will continue to be available at health centre treatment rooms, and the PCV 20 vaccine will be available by appointment through the National Immunisation Service clinics.
The Health Ministry said that all three vaccines can be given in one session, or spread out as needed, based on patient preference.
The Ministry advised that getting the annual flu shot and the Covid-19 vaccine is one of the best ways to protect oneself from serious illness.
These vaccines also protect against the latest variants of the virus. By getting vaccinated every year, it not only reduces the risk of severe complications, but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in the community, it said.
Update with statement from Nadur Local Council:
On Monday morning, the Nadur Local Council said that following its discussions with the Ministry for Health and Superintendent of Public Health, “we are pleased to inform residents that the three types of vaccination will be provided at the Nadur Local Council.”
The Council asked those interested to register at the Local Council office until the 2nd of November. “We will then inform you in the coming weeks about the date for the vaccination session at Nadur.”
There is currently no information on a similar service available from other Local Councils.
