A group of thirty students from seven European universities have just completed a week of intensive studies as part of the European project – Shape2Gether.

The students spent a lot of time exploring various aspects of sustainability in different sites on the island of Gozo. One of the sites they visited together with Profs Paul Pace and Dr. Martin Musumeci, both from the University of Malta, was Hondoq ir-Rummien.

Whilst there the students had the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Qala, Mr. Paul Buttigieg. During this meeting the students were able to experience the beauty and the ecological and social value of the locality, and the need to protect this heritage.

The organisers said that the students also learnt of the “strategies and personal attacks that were used against the Mayor and all those who opposed the project for a tourist complex in the area.”
