Latest data shows that Gozo registered an increase of 14.3% in the number of approved building permits for new dwellings in the third quarter of this year, the National Statistics Office said today.

328 dwellings were registered in the third quarter, an increase on the same period in 2023 when the number was 287. However it was down on the second quarter of this year when 388 were registered.

Zebbug, which also covers Marsalforn, had the highest number of approved new dwellings on Gozo, with 61.

Other Gozo localities were Xaghra 50, Ghajnsielem 41, Nadur 34, Qala 33, Kercem 26, Victoria and Xewkija both 22, Sannat 15, Gharb 9, Munxar (which includes Xlendi) 7, San Lawrenz also 7, Ghasri 1, there were none for Fontana.

On a national basis, during the third quarter of 2024, 394 building permits for a total of 1,744 new dwellings were approved.

When compared to the same quarter of 2023, the number of approved new dwellings decreased by 4.5%

When compared to Q3 2023, dwellings approved in Malta decreased by 8.1%

Apartments made up 68.8% of the total number of approved new dwellings.

The highest number of approved new dwellings (149) was registered in Birkirkara.
