Victoria Health Centre and three Community Clinics now cover GozoThe Victoria Health Centre provides cover for the whole of Gozo, while there are also three Community Clinics to cover different localities across the island, said Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela.

These are the Community Clinic in Xewkija which covers localities of the North-East, the Gharb Community Clinic which covers those of the North-West, and the Qala Community Clinic covering localities of the South-East.

These details were provided by the Health Minister in reply to a Parliamentary Question tabled by opposition MP Chris Said on the number of health clinics currently operating in Gozo and whether there were any plans to reopen others in Gozo during 2025.

The Health Minister also said that the new role of Community Clinics goes far beyond the function that the clinics had until recently.

“The Community Clinics have become modern clinics in terms of appearance and are equipped with the best medical equipment to offer a multidisciplinary primary care service of the highest level,” Minister Abela said. The Community Clinics are also connected to the electronic patient record system so that the patient’s medical history is accessible in real time from anywhere in Primary Health Care.

He concluded by saying, “the main aim is to bring primary care services closer to the patients’ place of residence and their place of work. Therefore, the Community Clinics are opened in strategic locations.”

Yesterday I tried to see a medic at the Victoria Health Centre at about 10.30am and found about 10 people standing outside waiting to get a ticket to enter and about another 25 perons waiting inside. More than 50% of them liked foreigners. Where is our efficient health system gone? Seems like we are becoming TCNs as well.
