The Police said that over the last 10 days, from the 22nd of December to New Year’s Day, it conducted over 170 roadchecks across Malta and Gozo, stopping more than 4,700 vehicles and issuing over 400 charges and tickets.

The Police said that these efforts ensured another festive season with no serious accidents across Gozo and Malta.

This roadchecks resulted in:

85+ speeding tickets issued via speed gun inspections.

11 drivers tested positive during breathalyser checks.

Several vehicles towed due to invalid/expired road licenses.

As a preventative measure, the Police said it also distributed and affixed educational material on parked cars to promote the message – Don’t Drink & Drive.

The Police Force spokesperson stated that, “these road inspections were coordinated by the Police Force with the assistance of officials from Transport Malta. This road inspection exercise will not stop at the end of the New Year festivities but will continue throughout the year to ensure safer roads in Malta and Gozo.”

He added that “the Police Force thanks everyone for their cooperation so that during these festive days, we had safe roads without any serious incidents.”
