BirdLife Malta has sent all Members of Parliament and General Election Candidates, a copy of their ten electoral requests.

BirdLife Malta highlighted that “as a country of 316 square kilometres and over half a million citizens, Malta and the other islands of Gozo and Comino is the sixth most densely populated country in the world and the first in Europe and also the most built-up country from all the European Union Member States.”

It stressed that in view of this, nature and biodiversity need “concrete protection, and excellent planning of both urban and natural open spaces is crucial.”

BirdLife Malta went on to say that it has “been at the forefront of not only taking action in this field but also to lobby and advocate for proper planning, conservation and protection of our natural heritage.”

The ENGO said that they would also be discussing these requests with the new government that is elected of the 26th of March.

The ten electoral requests are: Respect ODZs, Focus on Nature, Enforce Nature Laws, End Bird Trapping, Stop Spring Hunting, Create No Hunting Zones, Place Nature in Schools, Create Nature Reserves, Protect Comino and Involve ENGOs.

They are available to read in English by clicking here, and in Maltese by clicking here.
