Transport Malta said that in Gozo, individuals who used public transport last year rose to 6,597 people. An increase of 17% over the numbers achieved in 2023, this is according to the latest figures released by Malta Public Transport.

TM added that the increase in the use of public transport was recorded at all levels in Gozo, notably among adults and students

It said that this is viewed as “positive news as a clear demonstration of the growing confidence in the use of the bus as an alternative means of transport in our country.”

The figures from MPT also revealed that more than 75.8 million journeys were made through the public transport service across the islands, Transport Malta said. “This represents an increase of 12.7% % when compared to the previous year.”

It said that on a national level in 2023, the number of individuals using public transport had risen to 275, 215, last year this increased to more than 309,300 passengers, an increase of 12.4%.

“More than 174,419 adults used public transport. An increase of 13% over the previous year. While two years ago 43,383 students used public transport, last year this number rose to 46,523 people,” said Transport Malta.

It claimed that “free public transport is translating into more people reducing their dependence on their private car and choosing public transport as their main means of travelling.”

Transport Malta said that it is “committed to continuing to work together with Malta Public Transport to make the bus service more accessible and efficient for everyone who wants to use it on a daily basis.”
