The Nationalist Party in a statement on Sunday, noted with “serious concern the reports in The Shift News regarding the close ties between Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and an architect who appears to have been given preferential treatment in public contracts and controversial permits.”

The statement signed by Alex Borg Shadow Minister for Gozo and Karol Aquilina Shadow Minister for Justice, said that it includes “the involvement of the same architect in the scandal of the Nadur road, for which a Magisterial Inquiry is being requested.”

The PN said that “what has been revealed by The Shift News is further evidence of how the Labour Government, instead of prioritising the common good, continues to promote a culture of abuse, nepotism, and institutional fraud.”

“It is scandalous that Minister Camilleri himself is registered as residing at, and entitled to vote at the office address of the same architect,” said Borg and Aquilina.

They stressed that “this raises even more serious questions regarding the obvious conflict of interest that Minister Camilleri has. It is clear to everyone that there are far deeper ties between Minister Camilleri and his architect friend, despite what Minister Camilleri is attempting to portray to the public.”

“It is shameful that, while we are learning of these serious facts, Robert Abela and Jonathan Attard are attempting to change the law to kill off magisterial inquiries, including the inquiry already requested regarding this case.

Borg and Aquilina reiterated that “the Nationalist Party expects Robert Abela and Jonathan Attard to explain why they are afraid of justice and the truth. At the same time, Minister Clint Camilleri must reveal what he is hiding from the Maltese and Gozitan people.”

“The Nationalist Party reiterates the need for honest and clean politics, where institutions work for the people and not to protect corrupt politicians by covering up and supporting them. The first step in this direction should be for Minister Clint Camilleri to be honest with the Maltese and Gozitan people and stop obstructing the holding of a Magisterial Inquiry,” it said.

The PN spokespersons concluded by stating “the Nationalist Party will continue to insist that in our country, we have accountability, justice, and truth. The Maltese and Gozitan people deserve a government that works for them and not just for a select few.”
