The classic musical “Fiddler on the Roof” is to be staged at Astra Theatre, Victoria on the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 28th, 29th, and 30th of March.
Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, while making the announcement said that, “once again, this theatre is confirming itself as a centre of excellence in the field of musical productions in our country.”
“Fiddler on the Roof” is a universal story that deals with themes of family, love and resilience, while following the story of Tevye, a humble milkman who struggles to maintain Jewish traditions amidst great changes in 20th century Russia.
The audience will be encouraged to enter this emotional world through the production’s unforgettable music, including “Tradition,” “Sunrise, Sunset” and “If I Were a Rich Man.”
Camilleri continued by saying that this production is a testament to the quality and professionalism of the Astra Theatre, “which is continuously bringing world-class productions to Gozo.”
The Astra will stage this eighth musical under the artistic direction of Christopher Gatt and the musical direction for the first time in the hands of Maestro George Apap.
Veteran artist Mark Tonna will take on the iconic and leading role of Tevye, a sympathetic and philosophical character. Francesco Nicodeme will return as choreographer. The vocal direction will be led by Cathy Lawlor, while the choir will be led by Sylvana Attard.
The Minister concluded by inviting everyone to visit the island of Gozo to experience this show that will offer a magical evening of music, emotion and tradition.
