This morning, at 10am, on the parvis of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica, the Exequial Holy Mass for the late Roman Pontiff Francis took place.

The Holy See said that the Exequial Liturgy was concelebrated by the Cardinals and the Patriarchs of the Eastern Churches. The Dean of the College of Cardinals, His Eminence Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, presided over the Concelebration.

At the end of the solemn Eucharistic Celebration, the Ultima Commendatio (last recommendation) and the Valedictio (farewell) took place. The Cardinal Vicar for the diocese of Rome led the supplication of the Church of Rome.

The Patriarchs, Major Archbishops and Metropolitans of the “sui iuris” Eastern Churches then proceeded in front of the coffin for the supplication of the Eastern Churches. The Cardinal Dean then sprinkled the coffin of the late Pontiff with holy water and incensed it.

The coffin of the Holy Father Francis was transferred to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major for interment.
