Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri has attended the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPMR) General Assembly, held in La Palma, one of the Canary Islands.

The Minister highlighted how Gozo is shifting to “more sustainable economic growth.” He said that, “tourism remains one of the pillars of the Gozitan economy. We have invested in cultural events and activities throughout the year, we have invested fully in better connectivity and we are seeing a further strong increase in tourism in Gozo particularly in the autumn and winter.”

Camilleri explained that, “as an island we are exploring new economic niches. We want to attract more sports tourism. The Gozo Aquatic and Sports Centre, with an Olympic-sized swimming pool and modern facilities, will be attracting international teams and competitions, especially in the low season.”

The Gozo Minister stressed that, “all this builds a more resilient and sustainable economy, with quality jobs that respect the environment and our heritage.”

Minister Camilleri expressed his gratitude to CPMR for the opportunity “so that as an island we can make our voice heard at a European level and we look forward to further collaborations with other EU islands.”
