Today’s data from the National Statistics Office show that the annual rate of inflation in April as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices rose to 2.6% from 2.1% in March.

The NSO noted that the highest annual inflation rates in April were recorded in transport (5.7%) and education (5.6%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in communication (-3.7%) and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.2%).

The largest upward contribution to the overall annual inflation was measured in the transport index (+0.68 percentage points) largely due to higher prices of air transport services.

The NSO said that the largest downward contribution was recorded in the communication index (-0.14 percentage points) mainly reflecting the lower prices of mobile phone equipment.
