The new Nationalist Party Candidate for Gozo Beppe Galea, in a statement on Friday, insisted that the time has come to expand Gozo’s Mgarr ferry terminal into a larger, modern facility that also includes access for Fast Ferry passengers travelling to and from Gozo.
He stated that “to ensure a sustainable service that provides passengers with the comfort they deserve, we need a suitable terminal that protects people from the intense summer heat and the elements in general. This is aside from the current mismanagement of traffic, which is causing unnecessary delays.”
The Fast Ferry terminal in Gozo consists of a small room and four tents – “this is certainly not an adequate standard for the number of people using it, said Galea. He added that, “at the same time, the Mgarr terminal has become far too small for the level of activity taking place today – let alone in five or ten years’ time.”
“That is why we must seriously consider expanding the terminal, in line with the Nationalist Party’s proposal to enlarge the Mgarr Port,” said Galea.
The PN candidate for Gozo stressed that “while others focus only on fixing today’s problems, the PN has always looked ahead and planned for the long term – and we have proof of this. It was a Nationalist Government that expanded the same port, commissioned the building of three vessels that, over twenty years later, still serve the people of Gozo, Malta, and visiting tourists. That same government also developed a new terminal, marshalling areas, and significantly improved berthing facilities.”
Beppe Galea concluded by saying that “a new Nationalist Government will be fully committed to giving Gozo and the Gozitans the recognition they truly deserve.”
