Civil Protection Malta has recently expanded its operational fleet with the addition of ten Light Grass Fire Units, through an investment of one million euros.

The Department explained that these specialised vehicles are designed specifically to combat wildfires and are equipped with a 500-litre water tank to provide rapid and effective response in challenging terrains.

Civil Protection Malta said that every year it responds to approximately 1,500 wildfire incidents across the islands.

“These new units will significantly enhance our ability to tackle such emergencies, particularly in fields, rural areas, and valleys that are often difficult to access with larger vehicles,” said the Department.

Civil Protection Malta concluded by saying that “this investment reinforces our ongoing commitment to strengthening national preparedness and safeguarding Malta’s natural environment from the growing threat of wildfires.”
