A 34-year old man from Ghajnsielem died this afternoon after he got into difficulty while swimming in the area of Ras ir-Reqqa on the outskirts of Zebbug, Gozo.

Police said that they were called to the scene at around 3pm Initial investigations revealed that the man had found himself in difficulty while swimming. He was pulled from the sea by people close by who also provided first assistance.

The man was assisted by a medical team and taken to the Gozo General Hospital. Unfortunately, he was certified dead shortly afterwards.

Magistrate Dr Brigitte Sultana was informed of the case and opened a Magisterial Inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
