Subsidy increase for the 'Home Helper of Your Choice' schemeThe subsidy rate under the Home Helper of Your Choice scheme is being increased from €8 to €9 per hour as from the 1st of July, by the Active Ageing and Community Care.

This increase aims to strengthen support for older people to continue living independently in the comfort of their own home, with the help of a chosen and trusted person.

It was explained that through this scheme, eligible beneficiaries can employ a helper to assist with light domestic work and/or essential services, while receiving a subsidy for each approved hour.

Currently, 495 older people are benefiting from this service, which amounts to approximately 680 hours of assistance per week. This increase represents an annual expenditure of over €300,000. Direct investment by the Government to continue to enhance the quality of life in the community, it said.

This was announced by Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, together with the Permanent Secretary Dr Renzo Degabriele and the Acting Chief Executive of the AACC, Dr Alex Goby.
