The Gozo University Group has welcomed the launch of the new Sliema-Bugibba-Gozo ferry route, describing it as a “positive and timely development in enhancing sustainable transport connectivity between Malta and Gozo.”

This initiative, introduced recently by the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, “represents a commendable step towards reducing road congestion and promoting more environmentally friendly, sea-based commuting alternatives,” the GUG said.

A call for proposals will be issued for private operators to manage this new sea transport service.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, noted that the Bugibba terminal will support a new fast ferry service operating between Sliema and Mgarr, Gozo. He added that the sea transport service will be integrated with land transport to create a “truly multi-modal transport system for the country.”

The Gozo University Group concluded by saying that, “we look forward to further improvements that continue to support better connectivity for Gozitan residents, students, and commuters alike.”
