Ghajnsielem church lantern crowned with wooden crossThe final phase of the restoration of the dome of the Ghajnsielem parish church was finally completed, when the lantern was crowned with a wooden cross. The cross which had been blessed during the midnight mass on Christmas eve, measures almost two metres high and over a metre wide.

The cross has been crafted in teak wood and was designed by Innocent Centorino of Zurrieq. The work was completed by Guzi Mallia.

The restoration of the dome at Ghajnsielem was started early in 2009, after cracks had started to develop on the upper part, which lead to water leaks and other related problems.

The lantern (upper part of the cupola) has had to be rebuilt from scratch by a local master mason Leli Saliba and his son.
