Il-Hagar Museum in Victoria is to host an exhibition by Gozitan artist Mary Portelli who will be showcasing no fewer than 45 of her latest works, several of which depict familiar landmarks in Gozo such as the Gran Castello, Comino Tower, St Anthony’s Battery, Kenuna Tower, Gordan Lighthouse, Sopu Tower, and the Carnival Monument in Nadur.
The Museum explained that these pieces are made mostly from ceramic tile, which the artist meticulously cuts to emulate the actual buildings. They are set against a variety of tesserae, namely broken crockery, local stone, smalti, shells, mug handles, and other media.
Curated by Marika Azzopardi, MUZajk will be inaugurated on Saturday, the 13th of September,r at 7.30pm and everyone is invited to the official opening.
The exhibition then runs until the 16th of November and may be viewed during the Museum’s opening hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Sunday.
The Museum said that admission is, as always, free.
