The world-renowned virtuoso Italian pianist with a soft spot for Gozo, Michelangelo Carbonara, is going to give another charity concert at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz, where he received standing ovations at the end of his last performance in December 2008.

Piano virtuoso Carbonara, hailed by the Culture Magazine of the London Sunday Times as “pianist extraordinaire, …he will become one of the greatest pianists ever,” was born in 1979 in Salerno, Italy. Beginning his musical studies at the age of five and writing his first compositions at six, Carbonara proceeded to become one of the biggest names internationally; about 70 concerts per year see him performing throughout Europe, America, Africa and Asia. In July 2007 his travels led him to Gozo on the occasion of the Victoria International Arts Festival, where Carbonara truly captivated his audience, who in turn rewarded

The recital, which includes works by Brahms, Chopin, Schubert and Liszt, will take place on Saturday, the 6th of March 2010 at 7.30pm, in the Kappella, the medieval-style banqueting hall of the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz. It is the first major cultural event scheduled after the reopening of the resort, which is currently closed for extensive refurbishment works of its spa centre. Following the concert music lovers will have the opportunity to meet Michelangelo Carbonara at a special three course dinner with an Italian flavour at the Trattoria San Lawrenz, the Kempinski’s Italian restaurant. Entrance fee for the concert is €20 while the price for the dinner is €30 per person (including wine, water and coffee).

Once again, the concert is being organised by Sonia Sinclair Stevenson, well known for her charity work in Gozo. All proceeds from this concert go towards the funds of The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo (FSEG), and the group “Happy Moments Kenya,” which is run by Mike Weimar, a long-time resident of Gozo.
