Whilst welcoming the news that the Gozo Aquatic Complex has finally been opened, the Nationalist Party noted that the complex, which was opened in recent days, “took eight years to materialise and Government spent €10,000,000 more than it had projected.”
Investment in sport is important, said the PN in a statement, “but it must be transparent and not a process that raises many doubts about how and where public funds, which were supposed to be allocated to this investment, were spent.”
The PN said that it firmly believes in the importance of investment in sport. It has always done so, and has always invested in major complexes across Malta, including “in the Gozo Stadium, which over the years underwent extensive improvement works.”
“In our country, we have athletes who bring us honour in international competitions in various fields, yet their achievements depend heavily on the facilities we provide them with and the resources we give them,” stated the PN.
The statement was signed by David Agius Shadow Minister for European Funds and Sport and Graham Bencini Shadow Minister for Finance.
