On Thursday evening, Leader of the Nationalist Party Alex Borg, announced new appointments within the PN – appointments, he said, that will “continue to strengthen the Party and give it the direction that will lead it to the next general election and beyond.”

Borg said that these appointments will not only strengthen the Party but will make it the people’s party.

During the first political activity organised by the PN as part of the celebrations of the 61st anniversary of Independence in Triton Square, Alex Borg announced that Sabine Agius Cabourdin will be the first Chief Executive of the Nationalist Party – an entirely new role for the PN.

As CEO, Sabine, who is a lawyer and consultant and also well versed in the arts sector, will have an executive role and will report to the Secretary General, who will thus be able to focus more on political work.

Alex Borg said that he wants to see far greater participation of women in politics and this is why he wanted this role to be entrusted to a woman who has achieved success in her life.

Damian Spiteri, who is an auditor and Nationalist Mayor of Munxar Gozo, will be the Head of Alex Borg’s Secretariat, while Engineer Simon Mizzi will be Chairperson of the Leadership Delivery Office. His role will be to ensure that what PN Leader Alex Borg promised during his campaign will be implemented.

Simon Vella Gregory was given the role of Campaign Manager. He will be responsible for leading the work that has already begun in relation to the electoral campaign for the upcoming general election.

The PN Leader also announced the establishment of the Youth Think Tank as promised during his campaign to be elected Leader of the Nationalist Party.

The PN Leader said that with these appointments he will continue to strengthen the team already in place at the PN Headquarters so that the PN achieves its goal – that of becoming the alternative government chosen by the people.

During the Q&A session, young people present in Triton Square for the first activity of this year’s Independence festivities had the chance to put their questions directly to Alex Borg.

The young people asked questions on various issues that affect them closely. During this session, the PN Leader said that through his work, the Nationalist Party will continue to listen, involve, and give priority to the aspirations and challenges of Maltese and Gozitan youths, so that the Partit Nazzjonalista continues to be the natural home of the young generation.

The questions touched on various themes including education, mental health, the environment, the future of Gozitan youth, sport, culture and the daily challenges of young people finding balance in life.

Education and Mental Health

Educator Luke Fenech and psychotherapist Michela Faye Bugeja spoke about the need for a clear vision in education and serious investment in health, with an emphasis on mental health services. Alex Borg reiterated that the PN will ensure that every student and educator has the opportunities they aspire to. He said that a new Nationalist Government will make the mental health of the Maltese and Gozitans a national priority without further delay. He pledged a state-of-the-art hospital for mental health.

Environment and Gozitan Youth

Environmental activist Matthew Luke Axiaq and Nicolai Vella from Gozo asked about quality of life and opportunities for young people. The PN Leader said that a Nationalist Government will once again bring the environment closer to development and ensure that it is safeguarded as a right for each one of us through the Constitution. He said that his first victory came this week in Parliament when he forced the Government to discuss the granting of land at one third of its price. Alex Borg said that the PN will continue to be the shield of the Maltese people and of our environment.

He said that the PN will maximise European funds and provide Gozitans with the fleet of new ships they deserve, as well as ensure that Gozitans have quality jobs in Gozo itself.

Sport, Culture and Daily Life

Matthew Borg emphasised the financial and resource problems in sport, while Leon Briffa spoke about challenges in culture, particularly in relation to village feasts. Alex Borg promised that a Nationalist Government will appoint a dedicated Minister for Sport and that the PN will continue to give priority to our cultural identity. Isaac Muscat concluded by asking about the balance young people need between study, work and personal life.

Alex Borg said that PN policy is designed to create more opportunities and a better quality of life for young people, so that they can truly enjoy their youth while continuing to develop and grow in their studies and enjoy their friends and families.

The Leader of the PN reiterated that this dialogue is only the beginning of a wider process where young people will be at the centre of the PN’s proposals and vision.

While addressing the activity with the many young people present, Alex Borg said that it was a great satisfaction for him to see a Nationalist Party that is once again becoming the natural home of young people.

The Q&A session with the youth was moderated by Newsbook journalist Damian Micallef and presenter Michela Dalli. It was also addressed by Shadow Minister for Youth Bernice Bonello.

The activities continue on Friday with an interview with Alex Borg by MaltaToday Online Editor Karl Azzopardi and afterwards the main stage will host the Battle of the Bands competition.

On Saturday evening the celebrations will reach their climax with the Mass Meeting addressed by PN Leader Alex Borg, which will also feature speeches by PN Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione and PN Secretary General Charles Bonello.

Afterwards the show continues on the main stage with the participation of Spiteri Lucas Band until midnight when the Maltese flag will be raised and the Maltese national anthem will be played.
