A 43-year old Polish man died after finding himself in difficulty while swimming at Ramla l-Hamra in Gozo.

Police said that the incident happened at around 1.30pm on Wednesday.

The man was provided with first assistance at the scene by lifeguards from the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps as well as a medical team from the Gozo General hospital, but was certified dead shortly afterwards.

Magistrate Brigitte Sultana is leading an inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
