The Gustizzja ghal Artna campaign has released a new promo ahead of its second national protest, calling on the Government to withdraw the destructive planning bills and legal notices currently being pushed forward.
The protest will take place this coming Monday, the 27th of October, starting at 5:30pm from the Law Courts and marching towards Parliament.
The campaign said that the promo, featuring community worker and musician Kym Pepe, calls once again on the people to take to the streets and “defend the country they love from greed and from politics compromised by developers.”
“It comes after the Government has chosen to ignore the united calls from across society to withdraw these malicious laws, instead listening only to developers, the sole group to publicly defend this legislation,” stated the organisation.
Gustizzja ghal Artna argued that “among their many obscenities, Bills 143 and 144, together with the three accompanying legal notices, would grant sweeping and arbitrary powers to the Planning Authority, curtail the right to appeal Planning Authority decisions, strip the Courts of their power to overturn illegal permits, and provide amnesty for a wide range of environmental illegalities.”
The organisation stressed that “the promo underscores how deeply we value the natural and urban spaces of Malta and Gozo, and why we are compelled to fight for them. The Government’s so-called ‘planning reform’ is nothing more than a developer’s wishlist, and as long as it insists on pushing it forward, we will continue to resist.”
Gustizzja ghal Artna said, “the promo’s message is clear: together we’re strong. Together, we’ll stop them.”
