The Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Tourism Association have welcomed the announcement that Victoria has been shortlisted to continue Malta’s journey towards the European Capital of Culture 2031.
The Gozo Business Chamber said in a statement that it is represented through the Board of Governors of the Foundation, and will continue to work towards this objective, together with the other representatives.
It noted that “Gozo has always determined itself through its cultural expression. Culture, in fact, has always been an important vehicle that showed Gozo’s regional distinctiveness.”
The Chamber concluded by saying that it believes that Gozo’s bid for the European Capital of Culture 2031 will be an “important opportunity to continue to work together as a community towards a common aim which will continue to show our distinctive regional identity within a European context.”
The Gozo Tourism Association in its statement stressed that this recognition presents a remarkable opportunity to showcase the richness and diversity of Gozitan Culture across Europe, while promoting sustainable urban and regional development through culture.
“We are confident that Victoria, Gozo, will craft a compelling and varied cultural programme, underpinned by long term strategies that deliver social, cultural and economic impact,” said the GTA.
The Gozo Tourism Association extended its heartfelt congratulations to the President of the Gozo Region, Dr Samuel Azzopardi, the Mayor of Victoria Local Council Brian Azzopardi, and their respective teams “for their dedication and resolve in preparing a strong bid that successfully passed the initial selection process.”
It concluded by saying that, “we now look forward with great anticipation to September 2026, when the final decision will be made. We remain hopeful that Victoria, Gozo will impress the panel with its vision for culture-led regeneration, community engagement and sustainable cultural development.”
