Pitkalija to be set up once again in Gozo - MinisterUpdate: Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo, speaking during the budget debate in Parliament on Wednesday, announced what he described as “something very close to my heart – the historic step that Gozo has been waiting for – the reopening of the Pitkalija.”

The Minister stated that, “this is not just a project, it is a breath of fresh air for the Gozitan producer and a more solid future for our local product.”

He went on to say that he wanted to see it opened againg after the PN closed the doors of the vegetable market on Gozo, just as it did with the agriculture school.

Today we confirm our commitment to strengthening agriculture, fisheries and animal welfare in our country,” stated Minister Refalo.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday evening, the Minister advised that the preparations of designs and the quantification of the required investimate estimates are currently underway, however no proposed location for the Pitkalija was revealed

Last May it was announced that the Food Agency, within the Ministry for Agriculture, would be providing a free transport service to Gozitan farmers, delivering the agricultural products from Gozo to Malta. This service is being provided twice a week, to meet the demand.
