In December, the seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate rose to 3.2%, the National Statistics Office said today. This was an increase of 0.1 percentage points the previous month and and showed no change when compared to the same month in 2024.

The number of unemployed persons was 11,063, an increase of 3.8% on the previous month and an increase of 3.5% on the same month in 2024.

The NSO noted that the 25 to 74 age group was once again the major contributor to the overall level of unemployment at 7,423 or 67.1%. The figure for unemployed youths amounted 3,640 or 32.9%.

The unemployment rate for males stood at 3.3%, increasing by 0.2 percentage points on the previous month while the rate for females stood at 3.0%, showing no change on the previous month.

The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 to 24 years (youth unemployment rate) increased by 0.4% to 11.9% when compared to the previous month, while the rate for those aged between 25 and 74 years stood at 2.3%, showing no change when compared to the previous month of November.
