National Statistics Office data issued today has revealed that Gozo registered an increase of 59.1% in the number of approved building permits for new dwellings – 490 – in the fourth quarter compared to the same period in 2024.

This figure was down on the third quarter when the number was 512.

Zebbug (which includes Marsalforn) had the highest number of approved new dwellings on Gozo, with 89.

Other Gozo localities were: Victoria 78, Qala 69, Xewkija 63, Munxar (which includes Xlendi) 55, Ghajnsielem 41, Xaghra 38, Nadur 29, Sannat 16, Gharb 7, Kercem 3, San Lawrenz 2 and Fontana and Ghasri, both with 0..

On a national basis, during the fourth quarter, 597 building permits for a total of 3,487 new dwellings were approved.

When compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024, the number of approved new dwellings increased by 54.4%.

The number of new dwellings approved in Malta increased by 53.6%.

The NSO noted that apartments made up 71.8% of the total number of approved new dwellings.
