The Safeguarding Commission of the Church in Malta and the Victim Support Agency have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening collaboration in the provision of victim care services in Malta.

The agreement was signed by Mr Mark Pellicano, Head of Safeguarding, and Mr Brian Farrugia, CEO of the Victim Support Agency.

The church in Malta said in a statement that this is the first formal agreement between the Safeguarding Commission and a Government agency. The MoU establishes clear referral pathways, promotes coordinated support, and seeks to ensure that individuals affected by abuse are offered the highest standards of care.

It was explained that through this agreement, both entities reaffirm their shared commitment to working closely together in the areas of prevention, protection, and victim support. The agreement reflects a common commitment to professional cooperation, accountability, and the ongoing strengthening of safeguarding culture in Malta.

“At the core of the MoU is the commitment of both the Safeguarding Commission and the Victim Support Agency to placing the victim at the centre of all their actions. It underscores the importance of continuous support throughout every stage of the investigative process and affirms that whenever a position of trust is abused and a crime is committed within an organisation, accountability must be ensured and justice upheld,” the Church said.
