Today’s National Statistics Office data shows that the annual rate of inflation in January as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went down to 2.3% from 2.5% in December.

The NSO noted that the highest annual inflation rates in January were recorded in education (4.4%) and recreation, sport and culture (3.9%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in clothing and footwear (-2.7%) and information and communication (-2.6%).

The largest upward contribution to the overall annual inflation was measured in the food and non-alcoholic index (+0.67 percentage points) largely due to higher prices of meat.

The NSO said that the largest downward contribution was recorded in the clothing and footwear index (-0.13 percentage points) mainly reflecting the lower prices of garments.

The 12-month moving average rate for January stood at 2.4%.
