The Environment and Resources Authority said that following the confirmation of a sperm whale in Comino earlier this week, samples have been taken by marine biologists with the intent to gain more scientific information and possibly identify a cause of death.
The whale was confirmed to be a juvenile measuring 7.9 metres and was in a state of decomposition. The whale has been safely removed from Comino, the Authority said.
The ERA expressed its thanks to the Armed Forces of Malta for their assistance, Nature Trust – FEE Malta and University of Malta for their collaboration.
The ERA reminded the public to get in touch with ERA on 2292 3500 (24/7) and the wildlife rescue team for such matters.
