Next Tuesday, Gozo marks Freedom Day – Jum il-Helsien, with an event to be held in Independence Square, Victoria.

This 47th anniversary of the special day will be celebrated by a vocal and instrumental concert with the Malta Police Band, which starts at 7pm, on Tuesday, the 31st of March. In the case of bad weather it will take place at the Don Bosco Oratory.

Those taking place in the concert include, Mary Spiteri, Mark Tonna, David Joseph Sammut, Kirsty Spiteri, Francesca Zahra Sciberras and Nicole Hammett.

Freedom Day is commemorated on the 31st of March, when on this date in 1979, the Defence Treaty with Britain came to an end as the last British forces left the island.

Activities commemorating this important historic date take place on, or around, this date every year.

The event is free of charge and the public are invited to attend.
