Call for tenders published for charter of fourth Gozo Channel vesselThe Ministry for Gozo, through Gozo Channel Operations Ltd, has published a competitive call for tenders for the charter of a fourth vessel to operate on the Malta-Gozo route.

The tender – CT2143/2026, was issued yesterday and closes on the 5th of August, at a value of just over €7.7 million

According to the tender for Eligibility Criteria: ”Economic operators must have an average annual turnover of €1,500,000 for the past three years, provide a minimum €1,000,000 credit facility, and offer ferry services as specified in the technical requirements.”

In a statement, the Ministry said that the tender is for the charter of a fourth vessel through a ”time charter agreement, with the aim of strengthening the existing fleet and ensuring a reliable, efficient and resilient ferry service between the two islands.”

The Ministry went on to explain that the contract that will eventually be awarded will be for an initial period of two years and is ”designed to attract a wide range of operators by applying the principle of the best balance between price and quality in the evaluation of the offers.”

“This initiative forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the connectivity that is essential for Gozo,” it said.

The Ministry stated that ”the additional ferry will help address the growing demand for passenger and vehicle transport, while contributing to maintaining high standards of service, reliability and frequency on the route between Cirkewwa and Mgarr.

The Ministry for Gozo concluded by saying that it is ”committed to continuing to strengthen Gozo’s connectivity, recognising its central importance for mobility, economic activity and the quality of life of residents and businesses.”
