Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg has advised that ”urgent intervention work is scheduled to be carried out on the existing water pipeline serving Malta and Gozo, which will affect residents of Hondoq – Qala.”

He said that the work will take place between Monday, the 27th, to Tuesday, the 28th of July, during the hours of darkness, between 8pm and 5am.

Buttigieg stated that ”these works are considered essential because the pipeline is no longer resting on the seabed and is therefore at a significantly increased risk of sustaining damage.

”The intervention is necessary to safeguard the integrity of the pipeline and ensure the continued reliability of the water supply between Malta and Gozo.”

He went on to say that ”given the current condition of the pipeline, these works cannot be postponed until the end of the swimming season without increasing the risk of disruption to this critical infrastructure.”

The Qala Mayor thanked the Water Services Corporation ”for accepting my request to schedule these works during nighttime hours rather than during peak daytime periods.”

He said that ”this approach will help minimise inconvenience to swimmers and other members of the public while allowing these essential works to be completed safely and efficiently.”
