The Gozo Ministry has said that it is expected that by next Wednesday, the 31st of March, most Maltese will start crossing to Gozo, to spend the days during the Holy Week on the island. During this period Gozo organises several religious and cultural activities, adding to the attractions to offer on the island at this time of year. This is to benefit both those who live in Gozo, as well as for the Maltese and tourists who choose to spend a short holiday in Gozo at Easter time.
Besides enjoying the natural beauty of the island in spring time, attractions available to visit will be exhibitions and other events held by several organisations or individuals in different places. These include exhibitions of the last supper at Banca Giuratale in Victoria, the Boys’ MUSEUM in Nadur, the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist in Xewkija, the Vocational Center located behind the Xaghra Collegiate Basilica, the convent of St. Francis and the Don Bosco Oratory in Victoria. They will be open to the public until Easter Sunday between 5:30pm until 8:00pm. Monday to Friday, from 9:00am until late and between 5:30 pm. and 8:00pm Saturdays, Sundays and Friday.
The Center of Culture and the Arts at the Citadel will also house an ongoing exhibition of contemporary art by French artist Colette Marchant. An Exhibition will be open over Easter organised by Inspire Foundation, in Republic Street ,Victoria, which is for the sale of works of art, furniture and antiques.
On Good Friday evening the processions with the statues and paegantsd will take place in Victoria, Xaghra, Nadur and Zebbug. Then on Easter Sunday morning the processions of the resurrected Christ will be in Victoria, Xaghra, Nadur, Kercem and Xewkija, while the evening procession will be in Qala and Zebbug.
The long weekend last week meant that a number of Maltese and tourists crossed the channel to spend a few days on the island of Gozo. Gozo Channel said that between Thursday and Sunday, they carried nearly 56,000 passengers and more than 14,200 vehicles.
