Forty Italian and Sicilian motorcyclists joined other Maltese enthusiasts, who are members of the Historic Motorcycle Club – Malta, to participate in the second International Classic Motorcycle Weekend organised by the Maltese Club.

The Italian riders brought over their classic bikes which included BMW, MV Agusta, Moto Guzzi among others. These vintage motorcycles are somewhat rare locally because British brands such as BSA, Triumph and Norton are the make that are mostly found on the Maltese Islands.

The first leg of the activities organised during the weekend was a visit to Gozo. The group of drivers came to Mgarr, Gozo and followed along a route which led them across the island to Dwejra. Among other areas the riders visited were the historic sites of Ggantija and the Citadel.

During their stay in Gozo the motorcyclists had a short meeting with the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debon,. the Minister welcomed the Italian riders and praised the initiative of the Maltese Club for organising the event.

The Minister said that events of this nature help to promote our islands and hoped that the experience of the Italian riders drivers would provide an opportunity for them to discover more about the heritage and historical attractions on the island of Gozo, thus encouraging them to visit again with their families and friends.

The activities in the second International Classic Motorcycle Weekend will continue on Sunday in Malta, where the group of riders are also expected to visit several towns and villages together with sites of cultural and historical interest.
