National Statistics Office data today has shown that in July the seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate stood at 3.5%, remaining at the same level as the previous month and an increase of 1.0 percentage point on the same month last year.

The number of unemployed persons was 11,963, marginally lower than the 12,164 for the previous month.

The NSO noted that the 25 to 74 age group was once again the major contributor to the overall level of unemployment totalling 9,199 or 76.9%. The figure for unemployed youths amounted 2,763 or 23.1%.

The unemployment rate for males stood at 3.5%, and for females 3.4%. The rate for males decreased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month. The rate for females remained unchanged.

The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 to 24 years (youth unemployment rate) reached 9.8%. The rate for those aged between 25 and 74 years stood at 2.9%.
