An important chapter has been written in the journey of the City of Victoria in Gozo, towards the title of European Capital of Culture 2031, as the final Bid Book was presented by the Victoria 2031 Foundation to the Victoria Local Council.
The Bid Book, which represents the culmination of the work carried out throughout the candidacy process, will now be placed before the European jury, which on the 23rd of September will announce its final decision on whether the City of Victoria will be awarded the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture for 2031.
The presentation was made by the Chair of the Victoria 2031 Foundation, Dr Samuel Azzopardi, to the Victoria Local Council on behalf of the Foundation. It was received by the Victoria Mayor Brian Azzopardi.
It was explained that the final Bid Book sets out Victoria’s vision for 2031 and demonstrates how culture can be at the heart of the city’s and community’s development, while placing Victoria and Gozo firmly on the European cultural map.
The Foundation said that ”this moment is the result of intensive work, collaboration and commitment by many individuals and organisations who, over the past years, have contributed to this candidacy.”
Now, everything is in the hands of the jury. On the 23rd of September, the decision will be made.
The City of Victoria said that it ”looks towards that day with confidence, pride and hope that its vision for Victoria 2031 will lead to the title of European Capital of Culture.”
