Latest National Statistics Office data shows that the annual rate of inflation in August as measured by the Retail Price Index went down to 2.6% from 2.7% in July.

The data revealed that the largest contribution to the overall annual inflation was measured in the food index (+0.55 percentage points), largely due once again, to the higher prices of take-aways.

The highest annual inflation rates in August were registered in housing (6.8%) and furnishings and household equipment (3.2%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in clothing and footwear (-0.2%) and water, electricity, gas and fuels (0.0%).

The only downward contribution to the overall annual inflation was registered in the clothing and footwear index (-0.01 percentage points), mainly reflecting lower prices of garments, the NSO said.

The 12-month moving average rate for July stood at 2.6%.
