Power cuts - a result of long years of government negligenceAD spokesperson on energy, industry and transport, Ralph Cassar, has said that the cuts in the supply of electricity are becoming more frequent because of long years of negligence on the part of government.

"The energy sector has been abandoned for years by this Government. Over the last twenty years we have been promised the replacement and closure of the Marsa power station, which is still working despite the huge problems of pollution that is causes. Since the 1990’s we have never had a plan to reduce our dependence on oil from, or a plan for an alternative energy policy."

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson concluded by saying that, "The Government has never considered an alternative to the Marsa power station, or the use of alternative energy. What will happen in the summer when people start using their airconditioners?"

"The reality is that the Marsa power station has came to the end of it’s life and is literally falling to pieces, and we can now only expect cuts in electricity much more often due to the lack of government foresight and planning."
