Visiting team Brooklands C.C. win matches against Marsa

Over the weekend Marsa played against returning touring team Brooklands C.C. who are on their fourth tour to Malta. On Saturday the Marsa team won the toss and elected to bowl first. Alan Clowes and Caleb Jones opened the batting for Brooklands. Clowes was first to go and scored sixteen runs while Jones ended with twenty runs. J Bagshaw scored twenty four runs and Stephen Johnson top scored with thirty four runs not out. A great bowling effort from the Marsa bowlers had Brooklands bowled out for 123 runs. George Agius took three wickets, Andy Lenard two wickets and Nowell Khosla, Sam Dhandapani, Mike Caruana and Ronnie Sacco all took a wicket each.

After bowling so well the Marsa side thought they had the game won. Brooklands were not to be outdone and bowled even better than the Marsa side and bowled out the home team for 81 runs. Andy Lenard top scored with twenty nine runs and Nowell Khosla made thirteen runs. For Brookland Douglas Wyley was the main wicket taker with three, while Stephen Johnson and Will Mitchell took two each. Brooklands go one up in the series.

On Sunday the Marsa team won the toss again and this time elected to bat first. Tony Azzopardi and Sam Aquilina had the hosts of to a great start having forty five runs on the board before Aquilina was bowled for fifteen runs. Azzopardi went on to top score with thirty runs including a four and a six. After such a great start the only person to reach double figures was George Agius who made ten runs. The Marsa team were bowled out for 102 runs. J.Bagshaw was the main wicket taker with three, while H.Doughty and L.Maitra took two wickets each.

L.Maitra capped of his three wickets with fifty one runs with the bat helping his side to a big victory. Stephen Johnson continued where he left left off the day before making forty four runs not out. Brooklands go two up in the series.

On Wednesday (10:30 start) the third game will be played with the Marsa team looking to win a game in this series and also searching for a first win against Brooklands.

Next weekend the Marsa team play against new team Essington CC in a two game series. Both games start at 10:30

Last Saturday the academy had the help of the Brookland coaches which was well welcomed by the juniors. Next Saturday the academy will be from 9:00am till 10:30am
