The Xaghra Local Council are making the final preparations for the Xaghra Day 2010, celebrations which are going to commemorate the 322nd Anniversary of the Xaghra Parish foundation.

This event took place on the 28th April 1688. Amongst the main activities for the occasion will include the following:

(a) An exhibition about various projects for the locality and crafts made by the Xaghra elderly who attend the Day Care Centre administered by the Local Council;

(b) Cultural evening which includes the award of the honour ‘Gieh-ix-Xaghra 2010’ with the participation of the Victory Philharmonic Society;

(c) The Gozo Half Marathon organised by the Gozo Amateur Athletic Association in collaboration with the Xaghra Youth Centre;

(d) Library Open Day with the aim of increasing the residents’ awareness about the importance of reading;

(e) Information session and financial advises to all residents by the representatives of the Bank of Valletta;

(f) Educational activity for children at the Xaghra Primary School;

(g) Cultural outing for the Xaghra elderly around various places of interest in Gozo;

(h) Information session about the EU-funded programme EURES by representatives of the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC);

(i) Social activity for the elderly at the Xaghra Youth Centre

(j) Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving in the Nativity of Our Lady’s Basilica.

The full programme of activities (covering the days between Friday, the 23rd and Wednesday, the 28th of April 2010) will be announced by Xaghra Local Council shortly.
