President to meet with Maltese patients undergoing treatment in the UKOn Wednesday morning, President Myriam Spiteri Debono departed Malta for an official visit to the UK.

The Office for the President said that a key focus of her engagements will be meeting with Maltese patients receiving treatment in London hospitals, as well as the relatives accompanying them during this challenging journey.

Over the course of three days, the President will undertake several engagements, including visits to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton – both of which are currently hosting Maltese patients.

The President will also visit the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as well as the apartments provided by ‘Puttinu Cares’ in Sutton – entities that, alongside the Malta Community Chest Fund, provide support to Maltese patients and their families while they are in the UK.

The President will be accompanied on these visits by Minister for Health, Ian Borg, as well as officials from the Malta Community Chest Fund. On Wednesday evening, she will attend an event organised by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) at the historic Cutlers Hall on Warwick Lane, where she will address those present.

The Office explained that the event brings together some of the Malta Tourism Authority’s key partners operating in the UK, as well as Maltese operators participating in the World Travel Market – one of the world’s largest and most significant tourism trade shows, currently taking place in London.

President Myriam Spiteri Debono is expected to return to Malta overnight between Friday and Saturday. During the President’s absence from the country, Dr Helena Dalli will serve as Acting President.
